Westminster Martial Arts School Hosts Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Westminster � December 7th, 2009 � The Dojo of Karate is one of Westminster�s newest thriving businesses that teaches Traditional Karate, Modern Self Defense, and Fitness Classes to the community of Broomfield, Westminster, and Thornton.

In September, 2009 school owner and master instructor, Javier Lozano Jr decided to join the Broomfield Chamber of Commerce as a way to help continue to grow his business and network with other prospering small business owners in the community.

When I first opened in August 2008, I was still working a full time job and running my school in the evenings, so networking was out of the picture. said Lozano. But, things changed this past September that allowed me to go full time with my Dojo, therefore it made sense for me to join the Broomfield Chamber .

By joining the Broomfield Chamber, The Dojo has been able to attend a few chamber events and participate in Broomfield�s largest community event � Broomfield Days.

In addition to the numerous formats of networking events and unique marketing ideas the Broomfield Chamber offers, The Dojo of Karate was allowed to have their 1st Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on December 3rd, 2009.

Keep in mind that The Dojo had already been operating for 16 months and never had an official Ribbon Cutting, rather a grand opening event. This gave Sensei Lozano an opportunity to take advantage of the chamber�s way of promoting and public relations with the community and putting The Dojo on the map in Broomfield.

During the ribbon cutting event, many chamber members and ambassadors attended this special day, to help support local businesses and create a sense of community.

It was great to see how active the Broomfield Chamber really is with their community and local businesses stated Lozano. Its a pleasure to see this, especially in this economy. Every little bit helps, and by spreading the word about my Martial Arts school and taking advantage of the free services, I m able to grow my business and educate myself.

All new or established businesses part of the chamber are allowed to have one Ribbon Cutting event to help promote their business to the public. This is also a great way to network and get to know other chamber members.

Denver Broncos Tickets Shanahan Out After 14 Seasons

Many teams drop their head coaches after a disappointing season. After 14 years at the helm, however, letting head coach Mike Shanahan go has a little more weight. Not only was Shanahan the Denver Broncos� head coach, he was also their vice president of football operations, meaning he had a large amount of the control over personnel choices. The firing came after the Broncos ended their hopes of a playoff berth with a 52 21 loss to the San Diego Chargers. Just weeks before, the Broncos seemed to have their division all but won, but a poor performance in the last games ended their season. The search is now on to find a replacement for Shanahan, a search the Broncos haven�t had to do in more than a decade.

During his time with the Broncos, Shanahan led to team to two Super Bowl wins and appearances in three conference championship games as well as seven post seasons. Nine of his seasons boasted winning records. The Broncos finished this season with an 8 8 record. The reasons for Shanahan�s dismissal come mostly from his inabilities as a general manager rather than his shortcomings as a coach. The Broncos� defense has struggled immensely as of late, and Shanahan was in charge of picking the players for the defense. They were ranked near the bottom of the league this year in defense by allowing 448 points. They also ranked near the bottom in the number of yards allowed. Even so, the firing came as a shock to many players, who voiced their surprised following the dismissal.

Shanahan first started his coaching career in the college ranks as a 20 something in the 1970s. He started his NFL career with the Broncos as their receivers coach in 1984 before moving to the offensive coordinator position the next season. He became the head coach of the then Los Angeles Raiders in 1988 until he was famously let go midseason the next year by owner Al Davis. He returned to the Broncos as a quarterbacks coach for the rest of the 1989 season and the 1990 season. He again moved to offensive coordinator with the Broncos in 1991 before taking the same position with the San Francisco 49ers in 1992. He remained in that position until he became the Broncos head coach in 1995. While at San Francisco, they saw some of their most prolific years, winning one Super Bowl and making it to two other NFC championship games.

After dismissing Shanahan, the Broncos moved on to looking for a replacement. One of the names on the list is the New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. McDaniels is also being looked at by other teams searching for a head coach. It is also rumored that they are eyeing New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and Tampa Bay Buccaneers secondary coach Raheem Morris. Unlike other struggling programs like the Cleveland Browns, the Broncos are expected to be an attractive draw for coaches. Will Swinging My Arms Faster Improve My Distance

The simple answer is no! An arm swing is engaging the small muscle and asking them to work harder to swing faster, this is a recipe for disaster. The golf swing is very simple and built on leverage.

Have you seen a slow motion picture of a baseball pitcher either overhand or underhand? The legs and back supply all the power and the relaxed motion of the arm provides the speed. Leverage is set with the lower body while the core and back build up torque and then the arm is released which allows the motion of the hand to increase speed right up to the point the ball is released.

The golf swing is the same, yet actually much easier to produce since there are fewer moving parts in the swing. The lower body is quite but in a very athletic position. The left side controls the backswing as it turns the hands to the desired position at the top. The back swing is nothing more than an opportunity for the body to place the hands in the correct position to begin the real swing, which is the downswing. A hurried move to the top can destroy your chance of creating a good swing. You lose too much energy in the transition from the backswing to the downswing. You can actually eliminate the backswing. Just take your hands to the correct position at the top and stop. Make sure your lower body is in an athletic position as if you were about to sit down on a bar stool or shot a free throw. You will feel torque between your left side and your core. Your shoulders are turned and your left arm is relatively straight. You are now in the perfect position to release the energy that you have stored to the target just like the baseball player.

Now release the hands! You should feel a pulling motion in your left shoulder and your ribcage on your left side. This will be the beginning of the downswing. As your hands drop to about hip high you want the palm of your right hand to feel like you are going to spank the ball. The power delivered from your right side is from the right shoulder down to the forearm. This will facilitate a full release and maximum power.

I like to keep around 60 of my weight on my left side to improve torque in the backswing. This will also provide a descending movement, which will allow for a shallow but descending hit on the ball. This creates spin off of the clubface and a high ball flight with power.

Swinging with just your arms is placing your swing in the arms of a lot of small muscles when just a few large muscles can do the job much better. Focus on getting your hands in the proper position at the top. Feel athletic and release the torque and allow your hands to swing with speed. Allow your hands to swing and don�t get caught up in swinging the club head. The club will follow your hands.

Now go make some birdies.
